Beyond Doula and Health Consultation
The word doula comes from Greek and originally means “servant of the woman”. Today it refers to a non-medical companion who supports women and families during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.
As a Doula I do not perform medical tasks and I do not replace midwives or obstetricians. Rather, I offer emotional support, practical help and information — filling gaps that medical staff sometimes don’t have time to cover. Being independent allows me to focus fully on your individual needs and wishes.
Pregnancy is a time of change, questions and sometimes uncertainty. I offer individual support tailored to your needs: attending antenatal appointments with you (including translation and orientation in hospital), practical advice for preparation and help with the many questions that arise. This support builds calm and confidence well before the birth.

Well-designed preparation builds confidence. I offer a complete 8-hour course (recommended for first-time parents) or shorter, focused sessions for specific questions or refreshers. Topics include the physiology of labour, hospital routines, being prepared for the unexpected, non-medical pain-relief options, relaxation techniques and support to create a birth plan that reflects your wishes and priorities.
I offer in-person support in the Ningbo area and online where appropriate. From about ten days before your estimated due date I provide on-call availability. I accompany you at home and / or in hospital and stay until about two hours after the birth. My support is threefold:
Informational: helping you understand what is happening and enabling informed decisions.
Emotional: offering presence that strengthens your sense of safety and control.
Physical: offering massage for relaxation, suggesting positions and movements to ease labour, and providing practical physical support
For planned caesareans I offer pre-, peri- and post-operative accompaniment and can remain with you up to six hours after the operation where hospital policy allows attendance in theatre.

The weeks after birth are intense and often challenging. I offer home visits to support the initial phase: help with breastfeeding and latching, guidance in baby care, emotional companionship and practical help so you have time to rest and recover. Small practical supports — holding the baby so you can shower or nap — can make a big difference.rtum SupportPostpartum Support
